HC Deb 19 July 1995 vol 263 c1393W
Mr. Robert McCartney

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will specify the date of the meeting of the Anglo-Irish Conference when the Government of the Irish Republic first made the proposal that there should be a policy of voluntary re-routing of disputed marches, and the date at which he first concurred with the Chief Constable's policy of seeking the voluntary re-routing of such marches up to the commencing time of the march in question. [35800]

Sir John Wheeler

All decisions about the re-routing of particular parades are matters which fall entirely within the operational responsibilities of the Chief Constable of the RUC. The Irish Government have been so advised on any occasion when they have raised this issue.
