To ask the President of the Board of Trade what information he holds on the use of compulsory purchase orders by East Midlands Electricity to obtain leasing rights in connection with the provision of sub-stations on, and wayleaves over, public land; and if he will make a statement. [33698]

Mr. Page

[holding answer 13 July 1995]: My right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade is currently considering an application for a compulsory wayleave under paragraph 6 of schedule 4 to the Electricity Act 1989 over land in Leicester whose ownership cannot be identified.

There is no information that the company has applied for any compulsory purchase orders to obtain rights over public land.
