To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the work his Department has carried out in the last 12 months in making information about his Department available to the public via the Government world wide web server known as "www.open.gov.uk" and his plans and policies to make additional and new information available electronically on the server in the next 12 months. [34684]

Mr. Michael Forsyth

Over the past 12 months, my Department has made available to the public via the government world wide web server information on a number of aspects of its work. These include information on:

  • educational research in Scotland;
  • summaries of the available Scottish Office Factsheets;
  • sample statistics including:
    • Scottish Statistics 1994
    • Index of Production and Construction in Scotland; and
  • outlines of the functions of the my Department's Social Work Services Group and Her Majesties Industrial Pollution Inspectorate.

Information is also available on the Scottish Office pages for the Royal Commission for Ancient and Historic Monuments in Scotland.

My Department will review the usage of the service in due course before deciding what additional and new information will be made available this way.
