HC Deb 18 July 1995 vol 263 c1213W
Mr. Clapham

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what was the average annual salary of staff seconded to his Department from the private sector; what are the salaries of(a) private sector staff seconded to the DTI and (b) civil servants performing similar duties; and if he will make a statement. [34529]

Mr. Jonathan Evans

Staff seconded to the Department from the private sector remain the employees of their parent companies, who determine their remuneration. Civil service salaries may vary considerably as any given grade; and the provision of details of the salaries of civil servants performing similar duties to secondees could therefore be provided only at disproportionate cost.

Mr. Clapham

To ask the President of the Board of Trade how many of the exporters seconded from the private sector have come from small and medium-sized enterprises. [34532]

Mr. Evans

Since the launch of the export promoter initiative, 120 export promoters have been seconded from the private sector to the DTI. To determine what proportion of these secondees have come from small and medium sized enterprises could be achieved only at disproportionate cost.

Mr. Clapham

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what criteria his Department uses to determine the remuneration of staff seconded from the private sector. [34531]

Mr. Evans

Staff seconded to the DTI from the private sector remain the employees of their companies, who determine their remuneration.

Mr. Clapham

To ask the President of the Board of Trade how many staff were seconded from the private sector to his Department in 1994. [34530]

Mr. Evans

During 1994, a total of 186 people were seconded from the private sector to the Department.
