HC Deb 18 July 1995 vol 263 c1213W
Mr. Clapham

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what assessment he has made of what constitutes an appropriate level of business investment; and what are the equivalent figures for ASEAN countries. [34534]

Mr. Nelson

The appropriate level of investment is a matter for business, not Government, to decide. Since 1980 business investment as a share of GDP in the UK has similar to other major economies, apart from Japan. Figures for ASEAN countries are not available on a comparable basis.
