Mr. McAvoy

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what steps he is taking to ensure that enough people are being trained as post-natal paediatricians. [34805]

[holding answer 17 July 1995]: The senior registrar establishment in medical paediatrics in Scotland has been increased from 25 to 28 in 1995, and funding has been provided for the additional posts.

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations Greater Glasgow health board has made to him on difficulties in recruiting post-natal paediatricians. [34803]

[holding answer 17 July 1995]: Concern has been expressed about difficulties in recruiting medical staff in various specialties. This reflects trust's increased demand for doctors.

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many vacant posts for post-natal paediatricians there are(a) in the Greater Glasgow health board area, (b) in the Lanarkshire health board area and (c) in Scotland. [34804]

[holding answer 17 July 1995]: Information is not available for the sub-speciality of neonatal paediatrics. In medical paediatrics as a whole there were nine vacant consultant posts in Scotland at the end of 1994.
