§ Mr. BowisGood progress is being made towards the target of reducing the overall rate of suicide by at least 15 per cent. by 2000. Figures based on estimates provided by the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys show that the suicide rate in England fell by about 6 per cent. between 1993 and 1994.
Work is in hand to quantify progress towards the other two health of the nation targets relating to mental health.
