Mr. Milburn

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what have been the costs of assisting general practitioner fundholders with information technology expenditure in each year since 1991–92. [35388]

Mr. Moss

The GP fundholding scheme in Northern Ireland commenced in April 1993. The figures given for the first four years in the table represent the actual costs of the assistance given to GP fundholders in respect of information technology. The figure given for 1995–96 represents the total allocation made for this purpose to the four health and social services boards, from which fundholders will be reimbursed.

The information requested is given in the table. The figures for the first three years represent the management allowance payments made to GP fundholders. The figure for 1995–96 represents the total allocation made to the four health and social services boards for management allowances purposes, from which fundholders will be reimbursed.
