HC Deb 20 January 1995 vol 252 c767W
Mrs. Beckett

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what evidence her Department has that life expectancy has decreased for any group of people during the last 15 years.

Mr. Sackville

The available data for England do not identify any sub-groups whose life expectancy has decreased overall in the last 15 years. Life expectancy for males and females for every age group has increased since 1980. Over the period there are a few age groups for which life expectancy shows year on year fluctuations, but the overall trend for every age group is upward.

Mrs. Beckett

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what increase in life expectancy has been experienced in(a) England, (b) the United Kingdom, (c) each EC country and (d) each OCED country.

Mr. Sackville

Figures for life expectancy at birth in England, United Kingdom, each European Community country and each Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development country for males and females for the years 1980 to 1992 will be placed in the Library.
