To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what assessment he has made of the impact of the proposed landfill tax on the operation of waste landfill sites in residential areas.

Mr. Atkins

The proposed landfill tax is not expected to raise issues which are specific to landfill sites in residential areas. However, we will issue a consultation paper shortly on the detailed operation of the tax, which will provide an opportunity for representations to be made. I will place a copy in the Library in due course.
