Mr. Dewar

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland, (1) if he will give the number of persons convicted and sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the last year for which figures are available and the number of those who were unmarried or single as defined in Department of Social Security regulations;

(2) how many single or unmarried prisoners served sentences between 26 weeks and two years as a result of the non-payment of fines, in the last year for which figures are available.

(3) if he will give the number of single or unmarried prisoners who were sentenced to 26 weeks but not more

At present information on the marital status or household composition of prisoners is not collected centrally.
