To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations he has received from Highlands and Islands Enterprise in respect of the future of Fort William sleeper services and the Fort William and Inverness motorail service; and if he will make a statement.

Highlands and Islands Enterprise wrote to my officials about future rail service levels, and in particular sleeper services, in October 1994. My right hon. Friend and I will continue to take a close interest in this matter.
