To ask the Secretary of State for Education what formula is used to calculate education standard spending assessments per pupil.

The information requested is contained in the "Local Government Finance Report (England) 1995–96," a copy of which has been placed in the Library. The SSA system does not set out to provide the same sum of money per pupil, but to provide funding for a common standard of service across the country.
