Details of expenditure attributable to English police forces, shown at table B, are readily available only for the years 1984–85. For the years 1979–80 to 1983–84 inclusive, the table shows figures for English and Welsh police forces combined. All figures are at 1994 prices.

The expenditure on the English prisons may therefore be very slightly understated.
