HC Deb 19 December 1995 vol 268 c1095W
20. Mr. Chris Davies

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what special protection is provided by statute for the environment of the south Pennines. [4895]

Mr. Clappison

Large areas of the south Pennines have been notified as sites of special scientific interest under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Parts of the area fall within the Peak District national park, or are designated as green belt or areas of special landscape quality. The area also contains buildings listed as being of special architectural or historic interest.
