Mr. Jim Cunningham

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) how many illegal immigrants have been expelled in each year since 1979 from(a) the United Kingdom and (b) each separate region within the United Kingdom; [5160]

(2) which country has received most illegal immigrants expelled from the United Kingdom in each year since 1979. [5161]

Information on the total number of illegal entrants and persons subject to deportation action who have been removed from the United Kingdom is given in table 1. The data for 1984 onwards show the nationalities grouped by main geographical region. The largest 10 individual nationalities, comprising two thirds of the total, in 1994 are shown in table 2; corresponding data for other years could be provided only at disproportionate cost. Data on nationalities have been given in the absence of statistics on the countries to which persons were removed. Data are also not available on the region of residence prior to removal.
