To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how much his Department paid to the private sector for goods and services in 1994–95. [6503]

Mr. Howard

The Home Office central accounting computer system shows that approximately £290 million was paid to the private sector for goods and services in 1994–95. This figure includes payments made by the Home Office and the Prison Service agency, the United Kingdom Passport Agency and the Forensic Science Service.
