HC Deb 19 December 1995 vol 268 c1094W
17. Mr. Alan W. Williams

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the standard of insulation of housing in the United Kingdom with particular reference to the record of the last 20 years. [4892]

Mr. Robert B. Jones

The standard of insulation of housing has improved dramatically over the last 20 years.

Information for the whole of the United Kingdom is not available. However, the proportion of homes in Great Britain with lofts that are insulated has more than doubled from 42 per cent. to 89 per cent.; the percentage with cavity walls that are insulated has increased nearly tenfold from 2.5 per cent. to 23 per cent.; and the proportion of homes with windows double glazed has risen over sevenfold from 8 per cent. to 59 per cent.
