HC Deb 18 December 1995 vol 268 c1004W
Mr. Wallace

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what proposals his Department or its agencies have to institute a national survey of the state of repair of dry stone walls in Scotland; and if he will make a statement. [3793]

Mr. Michael Forsyth

[holding answer 6 December 1995]: I have no proposals to institute such a survey. I am aware from other correspondence on this subject that the Dry Stone Walling Association has indicated to its members that it has asked Scottish Natural Heritage to undertake a national survey. However, Scottish Natural Heritage has no record of any approach from the association.

Mr. Wallace

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what estimate he has made of the funds paid through(a) farming capital grant schemes and (b) agri-environment schemes for the purpose of restoration and repair of dry stone walls in Scotland in each of the last three financial years. [3797]

Mr. Forsyth
