HC Deb 18 December 1995 vol 268 c904W
Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) what measures he intends to adopt to preserve the badger setts affected by the development proposals for Carnmoney hill, Newtownabbey, County Antrim; [5451]

(2) if he will call in the development proposals for Carnmoney hill, Newtownabbey, County Antrim; and if he will make a statement. [5450]

Mr. Moss

There are no "call in" powers in Northern Ireland planning law. Outline planning permission for a new golf club at Carnmoney hill, Newtownabbey was granted on 21 November 1995. The developer's agent has been advised of the requirements of the Wildlife (Northern Ireland) Order 1985 with regard to the protection of badger setts and a detailed badger survey, commissioned by the developer, has been received by the Department of the Environment.
