HC Deb 14 December 1995 vol 268 c732W
Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what information he has on the use of second passports purchased commercially in the United Kingdom. [5448]

Mr. Kirkhope

The national forgery section of the immigration service holds extensive information gathered over many years on "second passports". Its records include details of various companies offering such documents for sale and examples of some of those on offer. This information has been widely circulated within the immigration service to ensure that any attempted circumvention of the immigration control by use of these documents is quickly identified.

When arriving in the United Kingdom, or when seeking entry through the channel tunnel, a person must produce, on request by the immigration officer, a valid national passport or other document satisfactorily establishing his identity and nationality. A person holding a document purchased commercially would not fulfil this requirement.
