HC Deb 11 December 1995 vol 268 c531W
Mr. Steen

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what discussions he is having with his European counterparts to increase the permitted amount of milk Britain is allowed to produce to enable British producers to make yoghurt, cheese and clotted cream. [5033]

Mr. Baldry

We have advocated the leasing of milk quota across member state frontiers as a means of allowing quota to migrate to those parts of the Community, like the United Kingdom, where milk can be produced most efficiently. Our EC partners and the Commission do not share our enthusiasm for reforming this aspect of the EC quota regulations, but we will continue to press the case whenever the opportunity arises.
