HC Deb 04 December 1995 vol 268 cc143-4W
Mr. Pawsey

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what plans she has for the future handling of college fees at the universities of Durham, Kent, Lancaster and York.[4192]

Mr. Forth

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State has accepted that the funds paid in college fees to the universities of Durham, Kent, Lancaster and York should be paid to those universities as part of their funding council grant. The constitutional independence of St. Chad's college, St. John's college and Ushaw college from the university of Durham precludes the transfer of college fees in their case. The Higher Education Funding Council for England has been asked to advise my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State on the annual adjustment of their college fees in future.
