HC Deb 25 April 1995 vol 258 cc445-6W
Mr. Tipping

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many claims for industrial injuries benefit in respect of chronic bronchitis and emphysema were made in Nottinghamshire up to 31 March; and how many were successful. [19882]

Mr. Hague

The administration of industrial injuries disablement benefit is a matter for Mr. Ian Magee, the acting chief executive of the Benefits Agency. He will write to the hon. Member shortly.

Letter from Ian Magee to Mr. Paddy Tipping, dated 24 April 1995: The Secretary of State for Social Security has asked me to reply to your recent Parliamentary Question about the number of claims for Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit made in respect of chronic bronchitis and/or emphysema in Nottinghamshire up to 31 March 1995. The information is not available in the precise format requested. Statistics are maintained by Benefits Agency Branch Offices and Districts whose boundaries do not corresponded exactly with those of counties. However, figures are quoted in the attached appendix for the three main benefit offices in the area; North, East and West Nottinghamshire. It is possible that these figures will include some people living outside Nottinghamshire. I am afraid that, whilst collating the present data, it was discovered that the figures supplied in the reply to your previous Parliamentary Question (Hansard Reference: Vol 245 Col 186/187) were incorrect and I apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. The corrected figures are also shown in the attached appendix. I hope you find this reply helpful.
