Notes:

1. Until December 1993 CBEVE was a NDPB. Since then it has been part of the British Council. However DFE, SOED and DENI continue to have full funding and policy responsibility for CBEVE.

2. EAB was set up in August 1988. However it was agreed that the initial start-up costs etc., should be accounted for as part of a single twenty month accounting period in 1989–90. All the figures quoted include expenditure on sub-contracted legal work and regional caseworkers.

3. FAS was set up with effect from 1 April 1994.

4. The figure for 1992–93 reflects the establishment of FEFCE in July 1992.

5. HEFCE was established on 6 May 1992, but did not assume its full responsibilities until 1 April 1993.

6. NCET was formed on 1 April 1988 by the merger of the Microelectronics Education Support Unit and the Council for Educational Technology.

7. NYA was formed out of the National Youth Bureau on 1 April 1991.

8. The first years figures cover the period from the establishment of NCC and SEAC on 15 August 1988 to 31 March 1990. 1993–94 figures do not include redundancy payments to NCC and SEAC employees.

9. SCAA was established on 1 October 1993 after which NCC and SEAC were wound up on 31 December 1993.

10. The figure quoted in 1993–94 covers the period 1 April to 13 October 1994, when TASC was subsumed within TTA.

11. The 1993–94 figure includes the running costs of the information section (formally TASC) from 13 October 1994 to 31 March 1995, and expenditure on establishing the TTA as well as running costs.

12. This figure does not include part-year costs incurred in 1991–92 and transferred from DFE.
