HC Deb 18 April 1995 vol 258 cc70-1W
Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what arrangements he has made for awarding pay increases to the chairmen and board members of NHS trusts and health authorities in Wales. [18246]

Mr. Redwood

[holding answer 4 April 1995]: Chairmen's pay has not increased since 1991; non-executive directors since 1990.

Executive directors holding national contracts received a pay award of 2.2 per cent. from September 1994, excluding individual performance awards. Those on NHS trust terms have pay determined by the trust's remuneration committee. The director, Welsh Office Health Department wrote on 25 January 1995 to authorities and NHS trusts informing them that increases in pay for executive directors must be justifiable and publicly defensible, since all NHS bodies are parts of the public sector.
