To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what action he is taking to gauge opinion on the introduction of a national identity card scheme. [18427]

We intend publishing, later in the spring, a Green Paper on identity cards which will canvass views on possible options for a national identity card scheme and will serve as a way of assessing the level of public support for the introduction of identity cards.
