§ Mr. MacleanInformation is not collected centrally, by this Department, on the number of cases heard by individual magistrates.
According to information held centrally by this Department, of the 122 defendants proceeded against for the offence of common assault at Croydon magistrates court in 1993—latest available—82 were convicted, of which one received a custodial sentence.
The 1994 data will not be available until the autumn 1995.
