§ Mr. DavidsonTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many council houses have been sold to sitting tenants, and subsequently repossessed, by local authority area, in each of the last five years. [16000]
§ Lord James Douglas-Hamilton[holding answer 24 March 1995]: Information on the number of repossessions of dwellings bought under the right-to-buy scheme is not available. However, I understand from figures provided by the Council of Mortgage Lenders that 1,791 properties in total were repossessed in Scotland in 1994, which represents 0.22 per cent. of the total number of properties with mortgages outstanding. This is around half the proportion for the United Kingdom as a whole.
