HC Deb 04 April 1995 vol 257 c1061W
Dr. Hendron

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what financial commitment the Government will give to a strategy within the primary and secondary sector to address low achievement levels among young people in the non-grammar school sector in Northern Ireland using professsionally qualified teachers. [17066]

Mr. Ancram

Some £20 million is being made available over the next three years to support an initiative aimed at addressing the problem of low achievement by pupils in a number of primary and secondary—non-grammer—schools in Northern Ireland. Selected schools will bid for the additional resources on the basis of school improvement plans which they must prepare.
