To ask the Secretary of National Heritage (1) what plans he has to introduce legislation to create new criminal offences to prohibit certain types of physical intrusion, harassment and covert surveillance; and if he will make a statement; [17256]

(2) what plans he has to introduce legislation to implement the recommendations for criminal offences and for new civil wrongs which were contained in the report of the committee of privacy and related matters chaired by Sir David Calcutt QC; and if he will make a statement. [17258]

[holding answer 3 April 1995]: The Government's conclusions on proposals for new measures to prevent intrusion and protect privacy will be set out in our response to the National Heritage Select Committee's report on privacy and media intrusion. This will be published when we have completed our consideration of the issues relating to the proposed criminal and civil remedies.
