HC Deb 04 April 1995 vol 257 c1004W
Mr. Orme

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage what is the forecast for Camelot's profit for the first year of operating the national lottery; and if he will make a statement. [17801]

Mr. Dorrell

This is an operational matter for the Director General of the National Lottery. I have therefore asked him to write to the hon. Member, placing copies of his letter in the Library of the House.

Mr. Austin Mitchell

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage what assessment he has made of the effect of the national lottery on the demand for goods; what forecast he has made of the amount which will be spent by consumers on the lottery in 1995–96 and the percentage taken in taxation; and what forecast he has made of the number of prizes and the income to Camelot in 1995–96. [17186]

Mr. Dorrell

Lottery duty is set at 12 per cent. Forecasts of sales of national lottery tickets, the number of national lottery prizes and the income to Camelot in 1995–96 are all matters for the licensed operator, Camelot Group plc. My right hon. and learned Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer published his economic forecast in the Red Book.
