§ Mr. ForthNo academic research on variations in the incidence of special educational needs has been funded by the Department for Education. The Department has, however, sponsored research into aspects of several types of learning difficulty, although not their incidence.
The Office for Standards in Education also monitors special educational provision and practice in schools throughout the country.
