HC Deb 27 October 1994 vol 248 c836W
Mr. Purchase

To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) when she or any of her predecessors were informed of the case of Richard Miles and New Cross hospital, Wolverhampton; and what advice was offered by her Department to the local health authority;

(2) what costs have been incurred by the Wolverhampton health authority since 1980 in the case of Richard Miles, excluding the value of the compensation awarded to him.

Mr. Malone

A local health authority would not be expected to contact the Department of Health in respect of a medical negligence claim of this type until after the claim had been settled. The hon. Member may wish to contact Mr. R. M. Carver, chairman of Wolverhampton health authority, for details of any costs incurred by the authority.
