To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many calls have been made to the NHS helpline for each month since its establishment; and how much the Scottish Office has spent in establishing, publicising and administering the helpline.

The cost of setting up the NHS helpline was £72,401. Since it became operational in October 1992, expenditure on administration of the service totals £303,585 and expenditure on publicity totals £108,241. The total number of calls, both interactive and non-interactive, received each month by the NHS helpline since it came into operation is as follows:
