HL Deb 24 October 1994 vol 558 c19WA
Lord Tebbit

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the United Kingdom delegation formerly accredited to the European Community is now accredited to the European Union.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

No. The European Union has no legal personality and does not receive diplomatic accreditations. The United Kingdom Permanent Representation in Brussels remains accredited to the European Communities. Since its work extends to the second and third pillars of the Union however, it has been renamed the "United Kingdom Permanent Representation to the European Union".
