HL Deb 24 October 1994 vol 558 cc19-20WA
Lord Tebbit

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will state in what manner they make public their list of European legislation they wish to be repealed.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

We have published no such list and have no plans to do so. We remain in close touch with the Commission on subsidiarity. Our objectives are:-

to ensure that all new proposals fully meet the subsidiarity criteria;

to ensure that the Commission continues to carry forward the programme of repeal and amendment of legislation contained in its report to the Brussels European Council;

and to encourage the Commission to keep all existing legislation under constant subsidiarity review.

The Commission has accepted 19 of the 24 items on the subsidiarity list which we and the French jointly submitted last year. We look forward to the Commission's next report to the Essen European Council.
