To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what steps he is taking to mitigate the environmental impact of increased military activity on the Salisbury Plain training area.

I refer the hon. member to the publication "Army Training and the Natural and Human Environment on and around the Salisbury Plain Training Area", a copy of which has been placed in the Library of the House. This publication explains fully the present position and sets out the measures being implemented by the Army in the light of the environmental impact assessment which was completed last month.
