HL Deb 01 November 1994 vol 558 c58WA
Lord Stoddart of Swindon

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether actions involving the closure of Princess Alexandra Hospital, Wroughton and the Army Vehicle Depot at Ludgershall were taken in advance of the expiry date for public consultation; and, if so, why.

Lord Henley

No actions have been taken to effect the closure of either the Vehicle Depot at Ludgershall or the Princess Alexandra RAF Hospital at Wroughton, although some prudent contingency planning has begun in parallel with the consultation process. At the Princess Alexandra RAF Hospital, this has included, where necessary, the referral of some NHS patients with long-term chronic conditions to NHS hospitals in the interests of the patients' continuity of care. If the hospital were to be retained, previous referral patterns could be resumed without difficulty.
