§ Mr. SimpsonTo ask the President of the Board of Trade what proposals he has received from the Atomic Energy Authority for plans to reprocess(a) the core fuel pins and (b) the blanket from the prototype fast reactor at Dounreay.
§ Mr. EggarThe DTI has received proposals from the AEA setting out plans for the reprocessing of all remaining prototype fast reactor—PFR—fuel, including PFR breeder fuel. On the basis of these proposals, reprocessing operations are now expected to continue for between one and three years beyond the 1996–1997 closure date which was foreseen when the Government decided in 1988 that the Dounreay prototype fast reactor would close in 1994.
