HL Deb 10 May 1994 vol 554 c83WA
Lord Stoddart of Swindon

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether their reply of 20th April (WA 16) means that they now support a single European currency, given their refusal to answer questions relating to European Community finances in terms of British currency.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Employment (Lord Henley)

The answers given by my noble friend Lord Strathclyde on 21 March (WA 20), 31 March (WA 68) and 20 April (WA 16) contained no such refusal.

Under a protocol to the Maastricht Treaty, Parliament will decide at the appropriate time whether the UK should seek to participate in a single currency.
