Mr. William O'Brien

To ask the Secretary of State for Education what is the total amount of money allocated in the education budget for nursery and early year training and initiatives in 1994–95; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Robin Squire

The 1994–95 local authority grant settlement allows for local authorities in England to spend £17,087 million on education. It is for individual local authorities and schools to decide how much to spend on nursery and early years education, including staff training, in the light of their own particular circumstances.
