To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what evidence she has for her statement that a promotion of Scotch whisky in a German chain of food shops was cancelled as a result of the stance of the German Government towards British beef.

[holding answer 29 April 1994]: I have been informed by Food From Britain's overseas division in Germany that concerns over bovine spongiform encephalopathy have created general difficulties in arranging promotions of British products.
