HL Deb 30 March 1994 vol 553 c53WA
Lord Denham

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What progress has been made on negotiations on the Global Environment Facility.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

The Government are pleased that negotiations to restructure and replenish the Global Environment Facility (GEF) were successfully concluded in Geneva on 16 March. The GEF will help alleviate global environmental threats and help finance the implementation of the Climate Change and Biodiversity Conventions. The UK pledged £89.5 million to the replenishment, which, at US $2,023 million, exceeds the US $2 billion target set. The ODA played a major role in negotiating the restructuring agreement.
