To ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will make a statement on the implications for patients of the letter by Sir Duncan Nichol, chief executive of the national health service, to district health authorities on the treatment of urgent cases within available resources.

Sir Duncan Nichol wrote to all hospitals and health authorities on 24 February reminding those concerned with the purchasing and provision of hospital treatment of the need to ensure that appropriate clinical priority is given to patients on waiting lists.
