HL Deb 28 March 1994 vol 553 cc36-7WA
Lord Molloy

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What steps they are taking to ensure that the situation in the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip does not deteriorate following the Hebron massacre.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

The UN Security Council adopted a resolution on 18 March condemning the massacre in Hebron and calling for protection of Palestinian civilians in the Occupied Territories, including an international presence, and for the implementation without delay of the Declaration of Principles signed last year by Israel and the PLO. In their statement of 7 March, European Union Foreign Ministers encouraged the swift resumption of negotiations between all the parties, supported the establishment of an international presence and declared their willingness to contribute.
