HL Deb 28 March 1994 vol 553 cc35-6WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will use their best endeavours to ensure that the town of Maglaj, and the nearby villages in Bosnia, become a "safe area".

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

We have supported the UN's immediate objectives to secure an end to the artillery bombardment and to obtain access for humanitarian convoys. The arrival of the first humanitarian convoy in Maglaj on 20 March, escorted by British UNPROFOR units was an important breakthrough. Further convoys have followed. We shall continue to co-operate closely with UNHCR and UNPROFOR in meeting humanitarian needs throughout Bosnia, including Maglaj.
