HL Deb 21 March 1994 vol 553 c20WA
Lord Amherst of Hackney

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they consider it feasible to persuade:

  1. (a) the Greek Government to introduce capital gains tax and to require payment within nine months of a ship's sale at the United Kingdom rate of tax;
  2. (b) the Norwegian Government to make their shipowners forgo seven years' roll-over tax relief; or
  3. (c) the German Government to cease their 150 per cent. ship investment allowance.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Employment (Lord Henley)

The Government continue to press for the elimination of subsidies which distort competition, particularly in the single market.
