HL Deb 21 March 1994 vol 553 c20WA
Lord Carter

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Why they are not proposing to acknowledge the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Co-operative Movement by the Rochdale Pioneers in 1844.

Lord Strathclyde

The Government have not received an approach from the Co-operative Movement for any acknowledgement of this anniversary. However, I take this opportunity to acknowledge this significant landmark in the history of the Co-operative Movement, and to wish its members a memorable and successful Anniversary Congress in Rochdale later this year.
