HL Deb 16 March 1994 vol 553 c11WA
Baroness Faithful

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Which part of the Home Office is responsible for drawing up the design and regime specifications for secure training centres; and which part is responsible for overseeing the relevant contractual arrangements.

The Minister of State, Home Office (Earl Ferrers)

A Secure Training Order Contracts Unit has been established within the Criminal Policy Department of the Home Office to take forward the practical arrangements of implementing the order. The unit's work includes drawing up specifications for the building design and the regime of secure training centres. The unit will also be responsible for developing draft contracts as part of the tendering process.

In carrying out these tasks, the unit's officials are in close touch with colleagues in other Home Office divisions and in other government departments, including the Department of Health, the Department for Education, the Welsh Office and the Treasury Solicitor's Department.
